Song: If You Like
Released: 2023
Artists: BNXN
BNXN, formerly known as Buju, delivers a smooth and easygoing romantic record with “If You Like.” The track is built on a relaxed, low-pressure approach to love, where the singer offers affection without demanding commitment. Produced by Shemzbond, the song blends Afro-fusion with R&B sensibilities, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Lyrically, BNXN paints a picture of luxury getaways and unbothered devotion, brushing off envious friends and leaving the choice entirely up to his love interest. The song is part of his Still In Charge EP, which showcases his versatility and growth as an artist. “If You Like” stands out for its catchy hook and relatable message about modern romance. The opening lines set the tone: “I will really like to be your baby / But I said if you like.” This conditional approach to love is both confident and carefree, capturing the essence of a generation that values freedom and honesty in relationships. The chorus reinforces the theme with lines about adolescent love and hating friends, adding a layer of playful defiance. BNXN’s vocal delivery is effortless, gliding over the beat with a gentle swagger. The production features soft percussion, melodic guitar riffs, and subtle bass, all working together to create a dreamy soundscape. The song’s title, repeated throughout, becomes a mantra of sorts, emphasizing the importance of mutual consent and genuine interest. In a musical landscape often filled with intense declarations of love, “If You Like” offers a refreshing alternative, celebrating the beauty of taking things slow. It’s a track that resonates with anyone who has ever wanted to keep things casual yet meaningful. BNXN continues to prove why he is one of the most exciting voices in Afrobeats, and “If You Like” is a perfect example of his ability to blend catchy melodies with relatable storytelling.
