Nigerian singer and producer Crayon has stirred controversy online with a series of startling claims directed at Don Jazzy, Rema, and Mavin Records.
Charles Chibueze Chukwu, popularly known as Crayon, set social media on fire with a string of posts on X (formerly Twitter), appearing to ignite one of the most dramatic public disputes involving a Mavin Records artist in recent years.
The 28-year-old Lagos-born artist, who initially gained recognition through Mavin’s talent development program before officially joining Blowtime Entertainment—an imprint affiliated with Mavin—in 2019, shared a series of cryptic and emotionally charged messages. His posts specifically called out the label’s founder Don Jazzy, COO Tega Oghenejobo, and fellow Mavin sensation Rema, leaving fans and followers shocked and eager for answers.
Crayon opened his tirade with a confusing blend of affection and aggression, writing “Don jazzy na my boy!!!!!! Una dey maddddd!!?? Shayennnnn sharayyyyyy333,” before pivoting sharply to attack the COO directly, calling Oghenejobo “Tega highest criminal!!!!!!!!!” He then broadened his attack to the label itself, declaring “Mavin is going down!!!!!!” before taking aim at the label’s biggest star: “Rema for the next 100 years no feature. You stole my star from me. Yeah I took tha shiiiiii backkkkk hoeeeeerrrr!!!!! Snakkkkkkkeeeeeesssssssss.” In a further post, he also appeared to compare himself to his labelmate, writing, “I’m HYM!!!! Not REMA!!!! Niggaaaaa I’m 69 in Africa!!!!!!!.”
This public outburst, however, didn’t emerge entirely out of the blue. Speculation around Crayon’s relationship with Mavin Records had been growing, fueled by the noticeable lack of promotion for his latest release. Fans began to wonder if the singer was exploring a more independent direction—or even contemplating a departure from the label. Observers also pointed out that Crayon has been relatively quiet in the public eye since the passing of his mother last year, suggesting that personal grief, coupled with the pressures of the music industry, could be influencing his actions.
The timing of the tweets also aligns with what appears to be a deliberate shift in his career. His latest single, “Baami,” was released not under the Mavin Records banner that had nurtured his career since 2019, but through a new venture called Olodum Ent.
Produced by his long-time collaborator Ozedikus, the single dropped without the signature Mavin branding or promotional push that usually accompanies releases from the label. Crayon also took to social media to engage fans in building the identity of his new label, writing: “Any weird creatives that can come with OLODUM ENT FLAGGSSSSS!!!! Gets 500 million naira cash!!!!! With love WARAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!”
